about

A collection of instrumentals segregated from their original projects and presented separately. I am a big fan of how side two of the Beatles' Abbey Road is constructed... all the songs run into one another. I like to do that with a series of short instrumentals that act as the "glue."

There is a process to creating a series a instrumentals... after the first one is finished I copy the file and the I deconstruct that track... deleting and adding things, cutting and pasting until is is vastly different. After I save track two I repeat the process again for track three... then four. By the time I get to number four it is very different from where I started... but it does retain enough to be related.

I like this as an exercise to creating music... sometimes taking things apart and putting them together differently can allow different sounds to be highlighted or suppressed therefore showing them in a different light.

Tracks 1-4 "Up for the Sound" are extracted from a collection not yet released called "Fine People"

Track 5 is the instrumental version of "Deterioration of the American Dream" from the EP "Tales of Deterioration"

Tracks 6-9 "Tales from the Basement" were constructed in 2014 and all four parts were used as glue for the EP "Tales of Deterioration." Initially this was to be the first EP back in 2014 and I was going to use the name The BassMeant. Someone was already using a similar version of the name so I went with the more visceral name Kill The Bass Player.

Track 10 is the instrumental version of "Deterioration of the American Dream" from "Tales of Deterioration" only in reverse...

Track 11 This was "Building the Great Nothing" from the EP "Tales of Deterioration." I completely took this track apart and remixed it for this project so something brand new would be on here. After I stripped all the vocal parts I had the challenge of how to make two bass parts interesting. They were totally remixed and reconstructed with some ambient outdoor sounds added. And yet the title "The Great Nothing" still feels right.

about

Kill The Bass Player New Haven, Connecticut

Disgruntled sound agitations from word contortionist Michael Volpicella, the vocalist of the overtaxed Connecticut band "things in the dark." These sounds from the Great Beyond come to us from New Haven via Land of the Plain, Forest Hell and Whigville. There are bass sounds to be conquered here... weird samples of discouraged demons... and noisy chattering jaws. Don't say we didn't warn you. ... more
